Obituary of Virginia M. (Dumas) Horsman

Virginia M. (Dumas) Horsman, 91, beloved wife of the late Henry A. “Bud” Horsman, died Thursday, February 14, 2008 at the Grosvenor Park Rehabilitation Center in Salem. Mrs. Horsman was born on June 16, 1916, in Boston, daughter of the late Felix A. and Alice T. (Chisholm) Dumas. She was raised in Everett, attended and graduated from Chevrus High School in Malden. She then pursued her education at Burdett Business School in Boston for a year. She was a lifelong resident of Everett who most recently moved to Peabody to live with her daughter. Mrs. Horsman was employed for many years as a bookkeeper at the Matin Gaulin Company in Everett retiring in the early 1970’s as the assistant to the comptroller. She was a daily communicant of St. Theresa’s Church on Broadway in Everett until their closing. As an avid bowler who belonged on 3 separate teams at the Charles St. Bowling Alleys in Malden, at the age of 90 she still drove from Peabody to Malden to bowl with her many friends. She was known as a person with a great sense of humor to her family and her many friends. As hobbies she enjoyed making crossword puzzles, reading and playing bingo. She was the loving mother and mother-in-law of Alice E. and Ernest Goldstein and Helen T. Horsman all of Peabody; devoted grandmother of Eileen M. and Christopher Hillick of Byfield, Anne M. and Darryl Song of Leominster, Christine T. DeMaria and William Siders of Franklin and Brenda M. and Robert Bua of Peabody; loving great grandmother “Gi Gi” of Kyle, Madison, Isabella, Chloe, Zachary, Jenna, Ryan and Allyson and dear to many cousins. Her dearest loving son Henry A. “Buddy” Horsman predeceased her in 1999. Her funeral will be held on Tuesday, February 19, 2008 at 10 a.m. from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St. (new location) Peabody followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. John the Baptist Church, 16 Church St., Peabody. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours Monday 3 to 7 p.m. Burial in Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 120 Wall St., New York, NY 10005 or My Brother’s Table, 98 Willow St., Lynn, MA 01901.
