Obituary of Daniel W. Dougherty
Daniel W. Dougherty, 83, of Peabody and formerly of Hoosick Falls, NY, died Thursday afternoon at the Shaughnessy Kaplan Rehabilitation Center in Salem following a lengthy illness. He was the devoted husband of the late Doris (Battersby) Dougherty.
Born in Hoosick Falls, NY, he was the son of the late David and Beatrice (Hayes) Dougherty. He was raised and educated in Hoosick Falls and was a graduate of Hoosick Falls High School, class of 1941. He has lived in Peabody for the past 25 years.
After high he entered the United States Army and served for his country during World War II. He was the recipient of the American Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal and the World War II Victory Medal as well.
He worked as a shipper and receiver for the General Latex Company for over 41 years before retiring many years ago. While in the army, he was considered to be a sharp shooter and later became a member of the Reading Riffle and Revolver Club, Andover Sportsman Club, and the Mystic Valley Gun Club in Medford.
Daniel is survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Jane and Charles Vogler of Hoosick, New York, a niece, Patricia Post of Eagle Ridge, NY and two nephews, William and Stephen Vogler.
Following cremation, a Memorial Service will be held on Saturday at 12:30 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody Facility to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend.
