Obituary of Lena A. (Staniszewski) Hilenski
Lena A. Hilenski, 90
Lena A. (Staniszewski) Hilenski, 90, beloved wife of the late Edwin Hilenski, died suddenly Tuesday February 19, 2008 at her home.
Born in Salem, she was the daughter of the late Alexander and Mary (Kobierski) Staniszewski. She was a lifelong resident of the city.
Mrs. Hilenski worked in the Kitchen for A.C. Lawrence Leather Company, and then in Food Service with Salem Hospital until retiring late in life just 10 years ago.
Lena, who was respected and admired as the Matriarch of the family, enjoyed nurturing and caring for her children and grandchildren, a trait that began when she left high school to help with her parents when her father was sick. She was a communicant at St. Joseph’s Church in Peabody for many years, and was a member of the Daughters of St. Joseph. She enjoyed creating meals from produce grown in her garden, and was know for cultivating wonderful Roses, Peonies, and other flowers. She shared her gift of cooking in the Polish ethnic manner with Golumbkis and other delicacies. She also liked quilting.
She is survived by: a son and daughter-in-law, Eddie & Jeri Hilenski of Peabody; a daughter and son-in-law, Donna Hilenski and Mark Brophy of Newburyport; three grandchildren, Brien Brophy of Newburyport, Christina Muckenhoupt of AZ and Mary Louise & Matthew Roy of Salem; two brothers, Henry Stanford of Danvers and Stanley Stanford of Huntington Beach, CA; two sisters, Frances Moss of Methuen and Florence Piccola of Lynnfield, and many, two generations of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death, besides her husband and parents, by a daughter Mary Ellen Muckenhoupt, and sisters Alexandria Zwiercan and Alice Paskowski.
A visitation will be held on Thursday from 2 to 6 P.M. in the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 20 Church St. location, Peabody.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather at the funeral home on Friday at 8 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at 9 AM in St. Mary’s of the Annunciation Church, Danvers.
Burial will be in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody.
Memorial donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
