Obituary of John F. Alberghini

John F. Alberghini of Peabody, 91 years old, husband of Helen (Letarte) Alberghini of Peabody, died suddenly at Salem Hospital on Tuesday, February 19, 2008. He was born on January 27, 1917 in Peabody, son of the late Gaetano Alberghini and Augusta (Diozzi) Alberghini. He was raised in Peabody and graduated from Peabody High School class of 1937, and was a lifelong resident of the city. As a young man he worked in Alberghini’s Fruit Market, a store in Peabody Square owned by his father. John served in the U.S. Army from 1941 through 1942. Mr. Alberghini worked in maintenance at GTE Sylvania in Salem for twenty four years retiring in 1979. He was a member of the knights of Columbus and was a skilled carpenter. Besides his wife of 66 years, he is survived by a son, Jay Alberghini and his wife Rosemary of Red Lion, PA; a daughter Janet Penz and her husband Alton of Washington DC; a brother, Thomas Alberghini of Bethesda, MD; three grandchildren, one great grandchild and several nieces and nephews. Six brothers and sisters predeceased him. A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, February 22, 2008 at 11 a.m. in St. John the Baptist Church, 16 Church Street, Peabody, to which relatives and friends are invited to attend.
