Obituary of Paul W. Gilchrist

Paul Gilchrist, 59, husband of Mary Susan (Barry) Gilchrist of Peabody, died unexpectedly on Thursday, February 21, 2008 after being stricken at his home. Paul was born on November 24, 1948 in Revere, son of the late Alan and Ruth (Hannigan) Gilchrist. He was raised in Georgetown and graduated from Georgetown High School Class of 1966. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1968 and served as a Corpsman attached to the 2nd Marine Division, FMF, CLNC until being honorably discharged in 1972. He later pursued his education at Bunker Hill Community College and became a registered nurse in 1977 specializing in respiratory therapy. He moved to Peabody in 1985. He began his nursing career at Beverly Hospital, and then worked in the same capacity at Salem and Union Hospitals and Hogan Regional Center in Hathorne. For the past 10 years he has been employed as a respiratory therapist at the Fernald Center in Waltham. Paul dedicated his entire life to his 5 daughters and his 2 granddaughters and as a hobby he loved fishing. In addition to his wife of 27 years, he is survived by 5 daughters, Caryn L. Gilchrist of Salem, NH, Tammy M. Gilchrist of Westborough, Katie M. and her husband Joe Sederquist of Tewksbury, Megan L. Gilchrist and Lindsay R. Gilchrist both of Peabody; 2 granddaughters, Ashley R. Rawson of Salem, NH and Peyton Rose Sederquist of Tewksbury; 2 brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Jon and Nancy Arnotis of Peabody and Robert and Lynn Barry of Methuen; 4 nephews and a niece, John C. Martin of Eugene, OR, Andrew P. Arnotis of Peabody, Robert P. Barry, Nicholas H. Barry and Mackenzie L. Barry all of Methuen. His funeral will be held on Monday, February 25, 2008 at 10 a.m. from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral, 82 Lynn St., (new location) Peabody followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. Ann Church, 140 Lynn St., Peabody. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours Sunday 2 to 6 p.m. Burial in Harmony Cemetery, Georgetown.
