Joseph M. Cherbuy
PEABODYJoseph M. Cherbuy, Sr., 83, beloved husband of the late Doris G. (Dumais) Cherbuy, died peacefully Friday February 22, 2008 at the Emerson Hospital in Concord after a long illness.
Born in Lynn on June 10, 1924, he was the son of the late Joseph E. and Celia M. (Twiss) Cherbuy. He was a lifelong resident of 19 County St. in Peabody, which has been with the family through several generations, and graduated from Peabody High School, Class of 1941.
Mr. Cherbuy took pride that he enlisted in the Army in December 1941 so that he could serve his country during World War II. He served in the European Theatre of Operations with the Fifth Armored Division, stationed in Normandy, France. He served in Central Europe in the Ardennes, Battle of the Bulge, and the Rhinelands.
He was an Electrician, and member of I.B.E.W. Local 103 of Boston for over 60 years, and also was assigned to the Signal Department with the M.B.T.A. for over 15 years.
Joseph was involved in several organizations, the V.F.W. Post 1011 of Peabody, American Legion Post 159 of Peabody, the Fifth Armored Division Association, B.P.O.E. Elks Lodge 1409 of Peabody, and the Peabody Historical Society.
He is survived by: three daughters and their husbands, Carol & James Gumbleton of Palmer, Susan and Michael Richman and Donna & James Krol, both of Peabody; one son, Joseph M. Cherbuy, Jr. of Carthage, MO; a sister, Claire Nelson of Danvers; four grandsons, Benjamin Krol, James, Jeremy and Jeffrey Gumbleton, two granddaughters, Melanie Crimble and Sara Lambley; one great-grandson, Chace Crimble; he also leaves a long-time companion, Virginia LeBoeuf of Peabody and several nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4 to 8 P.M. in the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St. location, Peabody.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather on Wednesday at 9 AM in the funeral home, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 AM in St. Ann’s Church, Peabody.
Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody.
