Obituary of Jane M. (Szostek) Blazewicz

Jane M. (Szostek) Blazewicz PEABODY—Jane M. (Szostek) Blazewicz, 94, beloved wife of the late Walter Blazewicz, Sr., died Monday morning at the Rosewood Skilled Nursing & Rehab Center in Peabody following a long illness. Born in Salem, she was the daughter of the late Adam and Mary (Wozniak) Szostek. She lived in Salem for many years, and attended schools including the House of Seven Gables Settlement House. Mrs. Blazewicz was the Co-Founder and Business Partner with her husband, Walter Sr,. of the Tremont Cleansers in Peabody that opened just after World War II ended. She sold the business to another family member, yet remained working there for many years before retiring. Jane was quite active within her ethnic and faith communities throughout the North Shore. She was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Church in Peabody until its closing, then was active at St. John the Baptist Church in Salem. She was a member of the Holy Rosary Society, the former Women’s Polish-American Citizen’s Club of Salem, a member of the Ladies Auxilliary of the P.L.A.V., Post 63 of Peabody, and active with the Polish Picnic and Peabody’s International Festival. She is survived by: one son, Walter Blazewicz, Jr. of Peabody; one daughter, Carol Fownes of Burlington; five grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren; one sister, Sophie “Sally” Summers of Salem, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death, besides her husband and parents, by a grandson Jon Fownes, and sister of the late Stephen and Alexander Szostek, Helen Mello, Stephanie Dubois, and Genevieve Zinkavich. Her funeral will be held on Friday at 9 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St. location, Peabody, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 AM in St. John the Baptist Church in Salem to which relatives and friends are kindly invited. A visitation will be held on Thursday from 4 to 8 P.M. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem. Memorial donations may be made to North Shore Cancer Center, 17 Centennial Dr., Peabody, MA 01960.
