Obituary of David F. "Papa" Carroll Jr.

David F. “Papa” Carroll Jr., 69, husband of Mary F. (Kotchian) Carroll of Peabody, died following a courageous battle with cancer on Monday, February 25, 2008 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers with his family at his side. David was born on June 13, 1938, in Somerville son of the late David F. Sr., and Lela (Drady) Carroll. He was raised in Revere and graduated from Revere High School Class of 1957. He resided in Lynn before moving to Peabody in 1965. David began his working career in a managerial position at Market Basket & also at Stop & Shop where he was employed for several years. He was later employed for 18 years as a warehouse forklift operator at the Gillette Corporation Andover Plant until his retirement in 2001. He retired 3 months after the birth of his twin granddaughters so that he could share in their life experiences and 2 years later his 3 granddaughter was born adding to his joy. He also volunteered at St. Adelaide Church in Peabody. In addition to his wife of 46 years, he is survived by his children and their spouses, David F. III and Michelle Carroll of Peabody and Deborah L. and Eric Widell of Hartland, VT; 2 brothers, Thomas and his wife Carmen Carroll of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, John Carroll and his significant other Marie Laidlaw of Windham, NH; a sister, Lela Wildes of Summerville, SC; 3 granddaughters, Sarah, Erin and Meagan Carroll all of Peabody and many nieces and nephews. His funeral will be held on Friday, February 29, 2008 at 8:45 a.m. from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., (new location) Peabody followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Adelaide Church, 708 Lowell St., Peabody. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours Thursday 4 to 8 p.m. Burial in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody.
