Obituary of Fausto da Cruz Pinho

Fausto da Cruz Pinho PEABODY—Fausto da Cruz Pinho, 100, beloved husband of the late Fernanda M. (Saraiva) Pinho, died peacefully at his home on Monday morning. Born in Mosteiro, Tras-os-Montes, Portugal, on January 31, 1908, he was the son of the late Manuel and Maria do Rosario (Ramos) Pinho. He came to the United States at the age of 17, and was a resident of Peabody for the last 83 years. Mr. Pinho worked at Eastman Gelatine for over 42 years, where he was known as “The Whistler”. He had an incredible career in which he was gifted with great health and never took a day off. He retired 35 years ago. Fausto was involved with the Portuguese community, and along with his late wife, they contributed in building Our Lady of Fatima Church where he was a longtime parishioner. He was a memberof a Dramatic Group and various dance groups, performing throughout New England, New York, and New Jersey. He participated in many of the parades in the City of Peabody, and also on the Arlene Frances T.V. Home Show on Cape Cod, representing Portugal. He was honored in 1994 with the Portuguese Family of the Year by the Portuguese Continental Union. He was also an accomplished Portuguese Guitarist who accompanied many singers, including Rosaria Mireles, and contributed many hours of singing and dancing entertainment for many people. He was a member of the Club Luis de Camoes since it started, and the oldest living Massachusetts member of the Portuguese Continental Union. Besides playing his guitar, he enjoyed gardening, history, and geography. He cherished playing with his children as they grew up, and grandchildren—and he especially enjoyed playing the Boogey-Man. He is survived by: a son and daughter-in-law, Edward and Barbara (Karra) Pinho of Palm Bay, FL and NH; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra & George Wilkins and Brenda & Emanuel Brazil, both of Peabody; four grandchildren, Edward & Suzanne Pinho, Todd & Sally Pinho, Justin & Jannel Almeida; five great-grandchildren, Kyliah Fernanda, Nataliah Maria Almeida, Rebecca Barbara, Molly Elizabeth, and Corey David Pinho; one brother, Antonio Pinho of Portugal. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives on the North Shore, CA, FL, and Portugal. He was preceded in death, besides his wife and parents, by four sisters and two brothers, Maria, Etelvina, Conceicao, Aninhas, Manuel, and Jose. A visitation will be held on Friday from 4—8 PM in the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St. location, Peabody. His funeral will gather on Saturday at 9 AM in the funeral home, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 AM in Our Lady of Fatima Church, Peabody. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
