Obituary of Kathleen "Kay" M. (Finnegan) O'Brien

Kathleen "Kay" M. (Finnegan) O’Brien PEABODY—Kathleen “Kay” M. (Finnegan) O’Brien, 87, beloved wife of the late Joseph C. O’Brien, died peacefully at the Rosewood Skilled Nursing Home in Peabody following a brief illness. Born in Galway, Ireland, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Delia (Flanagan) Finnegan, and lived in the United States almost all of her life. She lived in Chelsea as a young girl, and graduated from Chelsea High School. She lived in Everett for many years, and the last 25 years in Peabody. Mrs. O’Brien worked as a Nurse’s Aid at the Whidden Hospital in Everett for 25 years. Besides displaying her caring nature at the hospital, she enjoyed her role as a nurturing mother and grandmother. Kay was very devoted to her faith, and was a communicant at St. John the Baptist Church in Peabody where she was a Eucharistic Minister, and active in the Altar Society, until her health failed. She was a member of the Tannery II Association, the Peabody Council on Aging, and enjoyed gathering of family and friends. She is survived by: three sons and daughters-in-law, Paul & Jean O’Brien of Peabody, Joseph & Kathryn O’Brien, Jr. of Everett, and Neal & Nancy O’Brien of Peabody; a daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen & Deacon Edward Elibero of Peabody; 19 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; a brother, William Finnegan of East Longmeadow, MA, and many nieces and nephews. Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, William O’Brien, brother & sister-in-law James & mary Finnegan, a sister Mary Finnegan, and sister and brother-in-law, Helen & William Twomey. Her funeral will be held on Thursday at 9 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn ST. location, Peabody, followed by a Funeral Mass of Christian Burial in St. Adelaide’s Church, Peabody, to which relatives and friends are kindly invited. A visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4 - 8 P.M. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Everett. Memorial donations may be made to Camp Sunshine, 35 Acadia Road, Casco, ME 04015.
