Obituary of Valda E. Matheson
Valda E. Matheson, 86, of Salem and formerly of Peabody and Jamaica, died peacefully Wednesday morning at the Grosvenor Park Nursing Home in Salem following a brief illness.
Born in West Moreland, Jamaica, she was the daughter of the late Loudvic and Edith (Daley) Matheson. She was raised and educated in Jamaica and immigrated to the United States in the mid 1970’s where she settled in Peabody for over 20 years. She has lived in Salem for the past year.
She was a self employed dressmaker who worked independently on the North Shore and in Jamaica.
She is survived by her son, Evan Titus of Rockford, IL, a daughter Pamela Myrie of Salem, a sister, Linda Hutchinson of Boston, her grandchildren, Michele, Keisha, Stephanie, Mark, Jacqueline, Donovan, Vicki Ann, Kerri Ann, and Neil, her nieces and nephews, Fay Hill, Maxine and Dinsdale Hutchinson, Antonettte Hurlston, Wayne Martin and Michael Llewellyn, and is also survived by eight great grandchildren. She was the mother of the late Desmond Titus and sister of the late Perline Matheson and Carmen Martin.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody Facility. Her Funeral Service will be held on Friday at 10:00 AM at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Salem to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Burial in Greenlawn Cemetery, Salem
