Obituary of Calder L. MacDonald
Calder L. MacDonald, 92, of Danvers, died peacefully Wednesday morning at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers following a brief illness. He was the devoted husband of the late Katherine F. MacDonald.
Born in Everett, he was the son of the late Lauchlin and Barbara (Campbell) MacDonald. He spent most of his younger years living in the West Bay area of Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Canada. He later returned to Everett and in 1953 moved to Danvers, where he had lived until 2001. He has spent the last 8 years living at Brooksby Village in Peabody.
He worked for over 38 years as a machinist for General Electric at the River Works Plant in Lynn before his retirement. While at Brooksby, he enjoyed participating in all of the activities from the woodworking shop to their walking marathons.
Mr. MacDonald was an active member of the West Congregational Church in Peabody. He was involved with a church ministry visiting the nursing homes on the North Shore. He enjoyed being with his grandchildren and was involved with their sports endeavors, and also was a fan of the Red Sox and Patriots. He also enjoyed traveling, and every summer he would spend time in Nova Scotia, and other times he visited various destinations including Scotland and Ireland.
He is survived by his six loving children, Elizabeth and Michael Mulcahy of Tewksbury, Judith and Ralph Williams of Kingston, NH, Barbara and Robert Delaney of Peabody, Calder L. "Bud" MacDonald, Jr, and his wife Darlene of Newton, NH, Douglas and Cynthia MacDonald of Kingston, MA, and Bruce and Debora MacDonald of Centerville, he is also survived by a very dear friend Joan Overgaard of Brooksby Village in Peabody, and by 16 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Robert, John, and Malcolm MacDonald, Margaret Towne and Catherine Isabel Snow.
His Funeral Service will be held on Saturday at 11:00 AM at the West Congregational Church, Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Friday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody. Burial will be in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody.
