Obituary of Manuel A. Cunha
Manuel A. Cunha, 74, of Peabody, died early Thursday morning at his residence following a short illness. He was the beloved husband of Clarinda (Aguir) da Cunha with whom he shared over 52 years of marriage.
Born and raised in Conceicao Horta Faial, Portugal, he was the son of the late Alvaro and Marina Rosa da Cunha. He later immigrated to the United States on September 2, 1970 and has been a resident of Peabody ever since.
He had worked at Salem Suede Company in Salem for over 20 years as a cutter and a trimmer before retiring nine years ago.
He was a member of the Holy Ghost Society in Peabody and was a communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church, Peabody.
Besides his loving wife, he is survived by a son, Jose Aguir da Cunha of Peabody; 2 daughters and a sons-in-law, Amelia & Scott Patten of Peabody and Elvira & Rob Halliday of Goshen, NH; a brother, Catano Alvoro da Cunha of Portugal; six grandchildren, Susan, Jenifer, Wayne, Jessica, Christopher, and Nicholes; a great grandson, Curtis Anthony Day; and several nieces and nephews.
His funeral service will be held on Saturday at 8:00 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home. 12 Chestnut St., Peabody Facility, followed by a Funeral Mass in Our Lady of Fatima Church, Peabody at 9:00 AM to which relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visitation on Friday from 5-8 PM. Burial in St. Mary’ s Cemetery, Salem.
