My husband, Herb, and I wish to extend our deepest sympathy to Sister Joan's family and her Carmelite Family. Sister Joan was the first person I spoke with about joing the Third Order Carmelites over twenty years ago and since my Profession in 1990 Sister Joan and I have enjoyed a wonderful relationship. Sister Joan and her Sisters opened their home and nursery school the third Sunday of each month until her retirement in 1999 to host the Lay Carmelite meetings. She and her sisters took good care of the Lay Carmelites by sharing their home, food and warm friendship. She was honest and open with everyone she met and I was most impressed by her deep faith. Her love of God and love of neighbor was truly evident by the way she lived. Even after her retirement and she moved to Washington, she never forgot to send cards and make phone calls to her friends. I'm pleased that I was able to visit with her one last time this past summer and feel very blessed that I was her friend. May she rest in Peace!
Teresa Simpson, T.O.C.

Sister Joan has always been a part of our very large family for every year I can remember back to. She was a wonderful dear friend of everyone from my grandparents down to the newest and tiniest family member. Her loving contribution to our family will be missed. God bless you, Sister Joan.
Kathy Henry

Dearest Sister Joan,
You have been my dearest friend and comrade in my walk with God for over 30 years, and I was - and I am blessed to have known you! I am ever grateful for your loving and caring heart that carried me in spirit for so many years. I enjoyed your smiles, laughter, gentle spirit and your spunk. You were ALWAYS AND ALWAYS there for me and I will miss you so very much...but, Sister, I am so very glad that you are now with Jesus-your most special friend. I will hold the memory of our enduring relationship with me always, and I will remember how many times you said "I love you, Karen." I love you too, Sister, as I always have, and I will think of you often - with all my heart. Love, Karen
P.S. I am so glad you were able to know how happy I am as mother to Dane and wife to Ray and that you had the opportunity to meet them. Aloha Sister! May God Bless You Always!
