Obituary of Elizabeth M. (Reno) "Betty" McDuff

Elizabeth M. “Betty” (Reno) McDuff, 91, of Hernando, Fl and formerly of Peabody, wife of the late Gerard G. McDuff, died on Sunday, March 30, 2008 at the Woodland Terrace Nursing Home in Hernando, FL. Betty was born on May 9, 1916 in Lynn, daughter of the late Louis and Ethel (Ellison) Reno. She was raised in Lynn and graduated from Lynn English in 1934. She then pursued her education at Burdett Business School for a year. In 1940, she moved to Peabody with her family. Betty began her working career as a clerk at J.P. Blood Co., in Lynn. She later returned to work as a permanent seasonal sales clerk at Filenes from 1955 - 1980. As an avid golfer, Betty played worldwide and was a member at Wenham Country Club and the Thompson Country Club in N. Reading. She also bowled on leagues at Metro Bowl in Peabody, enjoyed many years of traveling and as hobbies knitting and crocheting. Betty is survived by a son and his wife, Gerard G. “Mac” and Donna McDuff of Hernando, FL; her grandchildren, Heather A. McDuff of VA, Julia A. and Paul Carrigan of Charlestown and Lisa M. and Ozvaldo Pereira of Billerica; 3 great grandchildren, Connor Carrigan of Charlestown, Wayne and Jillian Daffe of Billerica; a sister-in-law, Violet Allard of Haverhill and several nieces and nephews. Her son Louis R. “Red” McDuff and her brother Ralph Reno predeceased her. Her funeral will be held on Friday, April 4, 2008 at 10 a.m. from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m. in St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 12 Washington St., Peabody. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. Burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody. Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the Shriners Burns Institute, 51 Blossom St., Boston, MA 02114.
