Obituary of Agnes M. "Nana" (O'Brien) Dowdell

Agnes M. “Nana” (O’Brien) Dowdell, 93, of Danvers, wife of the late Robert C. Dowdell Sr., died Saturday, April 5, 2008 at the Rosewood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Peabody. Mrs. Dowdell was born on April 2, 1915, in Salem, daughter of the late Edward and Josephine (Meaney) O’Brien. She was raised in Salem and graduated from Salem High School Class of 1932 and she resided in Salem before moving to Danvers in 1944. Mrs. Dowdell was employed for 28 years as a Licensed Practical Nurse at Salem Hospital until her retirement in 1980. She was a communicant of St. Alphonse Church in Danvers until it’s closing and was a member of the Catholic League of Women. Mrs. Dowdell is survived by a son and his wife, Robert C. and Diane Dowdell of Estero, FL; her grandchildren, Sarah and Gary Rooney of Dunstable, Matthew and Kelley Dowdell of Livingston, MT; her great grandchildren, Lauren, Gillian and Kalen Rooney of Dunstable, Haley, Madeline and Jackson Dowdell of MT; her special cousins, Lori and Richard Bettencourt of Peabody and the Frost family of Danvers; many nieces, nephews and other cousins. Her brother Edward D. O’Brien Jr., predeceased her. Her funeral will be held on Wednesday, April 9, 2008 at 10 a.m. from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn Street, Peabody followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. Mary of the Annunciation Church, 24 Conant St., Danvers. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours Tuesday, April 8, 2008 from 4 to 8 p.m. Burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem. Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to St. Jude Research's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
