Obituary of John J. Manning, Sr.

John J. Manning, Sr. PEABODY—John J. Manning, Sr., beloved husband of Katherine (Endslow) Manning of Peabody, died peacefully Friday evening at the Peabody Glen Nursing Home following a long illness. Born in Salem, he was the son of the late John and Annie (Hart) Manning. He graduated from Peabody High School, Class of 1944, and was a lifelong resident of Peabody. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. Mr. Manning worked for 35 years with Eastman Gelatin as a Supervisor in the Shipping and Receiving function for the company, retiring in 1985. John was a member of the A.O.H., Division 11 of Peabody, the Knights of Columbus, Leo Council 508 of Peabody, and a longtime communicant and volunteer with St. John the Baptist Church in Peabody where he gathered often as a “7 O’Clocker” at the daily Mass when in good health. He will also be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. He is survived by: his wife, Katherine (Endslow) Manning of Peabody; two sons and daughters-in-law, John J. & Gina Manning, Jr., of Lynn and Mark & Karen Manning of Berlin, MA; a daughter Maureen Dolen & her late husband Robert of Strafford, NH; nine grandchildren, Kelly, Stephanie, Patrick, & Matthew Manning of Lynn, Ryan & Robert Dolen of NH, and Nicole, Stephen, & Brian Manning of Berlin, MA; a sister, Dorothy Ford of Wenham, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Conway. A visitation will be held on Tuesday from 5 to 8 PM in the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St. location, Peabody. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather at the funeral home on Wednesday at 10 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 AM in St. John’s Church, Peabody. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem. Memorial donations may be made to St. John’s School, c/o St. John’s Church, 17 R Church St., Peabody, MA 01960.
