Obituary of Catherine Kay Cookie (Flynn) Doherty
Catherine “Kay” "Cookie"(Flynn) Doherty, 72, of Peabody, died peacefully with her family by her side on Tuesday evening at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers following a lengthy illness. She was the devoted wife of the late John Doherty with whom she would have celebrated their 47th wedding anniversary on April 8.
Born in Boston, she was the daughter of the late John and Mary (Lane) Flynn. She was a graduate of Cathedral High School, class of 1953. She worked for New England Telephone, the city of Peabody, and retired from Blue Cross and Blue Shield. She has lived in Peabody for the past 42 years.
She was a member of the Southern Bells Bowling league. She also enjoyed reading and was an avid Red Sox Fan. Also, she enjoyed going on cruises and for several years volunteered her time at St. Ann’s Church in Peabody. What was most important to her was the time she spent with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren.
Kay will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved her including her son, John Doherty of Danvers, her three daughters and sons-in-law, Jacqueline and James Kaczowka of Worcester, Catherine and Joseph Daly of Danvers, and Colleen Mark Leonard of Peabody, a brother and sister-in-law, Joseph and Joan Flynn of Hyde Park, two sisters, Mary Opidee of Peabody, and Anna Martignetti of Randolph, seven grandchildren, Chelsea and Michael Kaczowka, Callahan, Kevin, and Brian Daly, and Abigail and Brady Leonard, and is also survived by many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late John and Thomas Flynn and Helen McLaughlin.
Her funeral service will be held on Saturday at 9:00 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody Facility, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM at St. Ann’s Church, Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Friday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM. Burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody.
