Obituary of Catherine M. (Magner) Monahan
Catherine (Magner) Monahan, 89, of Peabody and formerly of Lynn, died suddenly on Thursday afternoon at her home. She was the beloved wife of the late Thomas H. Monahan.
Born in Lynn, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Catherine (Lyons) Magner. She was raised and educated in Lynn and was a graduate of St. Mary’s High School. She later lived in Cleveland and Rhode Island, and for the past 49 years, she has lived in Peabody.
She was an accountant who first started with the Internal Revenue Service for four years. She then worked an additional tens years for the General Electric River Works Plant in Lynn until 1952.
Catherine was a life member P.O.W. Auxiliary and also was a member of the St. John’s Sodality, Peabody Council on Aging and St. Mary’s Alumni.
She is survived by two sons, Joseph F. and his wife Jan Monahan of Peabody and Thomas Monahan of Uxbridge, a sister, Eleanor Mackin of Lynn, five grandchildren, Michael, Ryan, Katy and Kevin Monahan, and Ashley Felix, two great grandsons, Miles Monahan and John Peck III, and is also survived by many nieces and nephews, and Ferris the family dog. She was the sister of the late Joseph Magner who was lost at sea during World War II, Edward Magner and Patricia Wall.
Her funeral service will be held on Monday at 10:00 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by her Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM in St. John’s Church, Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday from 3:00 until 6:00 PM. Burial in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Lynn.
