Obituary of Eleanor (Noonan) Twomey

Eleanor L. (Noonan) Twomey PEABODY Eleanor L. (Noonan) Twomey, 91, beloved wife of the late John F. Twomey, died Thursday morning at the Rosewood Skilled Nursing & Rehab Center in Peabody. Born in Peabody, daughter of the late Patrick and Mary A. (Doyle) Noonan, she was a lifelong resident of the city. She graduated from St. James High School in Salem. She then won a music scholarship to attend the Mary Frances Rooney School of Expression in Brookline. Upon graduation in 1932 she opened her own business, Eleanor Twomey School of Elocution and Dramatics with a studio at 22 Federal St. in Salem. Over the next 29 yeasr she directed over 60 theatrical productions with cast members of all ages, while also teaching Elocution and Drama at both St. James School in Salem and St. Mary High School in Lynn. During this time she was also active in Zonta, a women’ s business organization. In 1961 she closed her studio to answer a request from Msgr. Murray to become the first lay teacher at St. John’ s School in Peabody. She taught 4th and 6th grades until her retirement in 1982. She directed many annual school musical shows which included the entire St. John’ s student body. Her greatest loves were music, teaching, and playing with children, and was active at St. John’ s Church including the Ladies Sodality. She will be missed by her family, including: a son John F. Twomey, Jr. of New York City, son and daughter-in-law, Paul & Sandra Twomey of Boxford, and daughter and son-in-law, Marie & Mark Fielding of Manchester, NH; she was the loving grandmother of John F. Twomey, Ariana E. Twomey, Thomas P. Fielding, and Katie Fielding. She was preceded in death by her husband, John F. Twomey, a sister Mary Brennan and brother Francis Noonan Her funeral will be held on Tuesday morning at 8 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 12 Chestnut St. location, Peabody, followed by a Funeral Mass at 9 AM in St. John’ s Church, Peabody, to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. A visitation will be held on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. Burial in St. Mary’ s Cemetery, Salem. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the North Shore, 10 Elm St., Danvers, MA 01923.
