Obituary of Anthony J. "Tony" George

Anthony J. “Tony” George, 91, of Peabody, died Thursday evening at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers after a short illness. He was born in Peabody on April 2, 1917, the son of the late James and Irene (Andreadis) George and was a lifelong resident of Peabody. He was a graduate of Peabody High School and the Salem Commercial Business School. He was the founder of the A.J. George Insurance and Real Estate Agency of Peabody and had operated the business for over 50 years prior to his retirement. He was a member of St. Vasilios Church and St. Val’s Men’s Club. He also was a member of the Jordan Lodge of Masons A.F. & A.M. Of Peabody. He enjoyed traveling and also wintered for many years at Pompano Beach, Florida. Tony loved to watch sports and was a faithful fan of the Red Sox, Patriots, Celtics and Bruins. He is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Nicholas and Stella George of Salem, his two nephews and their wives, James and Joan George and Peter and Janet George all of Salem, his grandnieces and nephews, Jason, Julie and Jill George and Jaclyn and Anthony George , all of Salem, his god Child Christine Votto of Peabody and many loving friends.He was the brother of the late Bessie George, Catherine George and Lt. Charles J. George of the US Army Air Corps. A visitation will be held on Sunday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 82 Lynn St., Peabody facility. His Funeral will be held on Monday at 9:00 AM from the Funeral Home followed by Services in St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, Peabody at 10:00 AM. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody.
