Obituary of Frederick J. Emmett Sr.
Frederick J. Emmett Sr., a life long South Peabody resident, passed from this world peacefully on his 83rd Birthday, surrounded by his wife and children after a short illness.
He was born in Peabody on May 31, 1925 the son of the late David and Margaret (Hammond) Emmett and was a graduate of Peabody High School in 1942.
He was married in Gettysburg, PA in 1943 and spent the next 64 years married to his high school sweetheart, Adelaide (Limauro)Emmett. Together, they returned many times to visit the city where they were married.
Fred served in the Army Air Corps as a navigator during WW II.
Following his discharge, he started working at the General Electric Company in Lynn and was a graduate of the GE Apprentice Program in 1952. He worked there for 35 years before ending his career as a unit manager. He was a member of the management team responsible for closing the West Lynn plant in 1985, coordinating all aspects of the shut down and earning many company citations for his efforts.
During his retirement, he enjoyed summers in Ossipee, NH and winters in Deltona, FL. He was a dedicated and loving father and grandfather and often had his grandchildren with him for walks in the neighborhood. He was a member of the Leo Council, # 508 Knights of Columbus of Peabody.
He is survived by his wife, Adelaide, his six children and their spouses, Frederick J. Emmett Jr. and his wife Marcia of Inverness, IL, Kathleen Langin and her husband James of Upton, MA, Maureen Pearson and her husband Ross of Atkinson, NH, Darlene Romano and her husband Joseph of Chester, NH, Kevin Emmett and his wife Joyce of Peabody, MA and Christine Murtagh and her husband Thomas of Salem, 15 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren , a sister, Margaret Brimmer of Hartford, CT., and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his grandson, Joseph Emmett Romano, his great grandson, Stephen James Capasso and his brother-in-law, William Brimmer.
A Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 82 Lynn ST., Peabody facility. He funeral will be held on Wednesday at 8:00 AM from the Funeral home followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Ann’s Church, Lynn ST., Peabody at 9:00 AM. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody. In lieu of flowers,donations may be made to the Alzheimers Association, 311 Arsenal St., Watertown, MA , 02472 in his memory.
