Obituary of Frances M. (Lane) Smith
Frances Mary (Lane) Smith, 68, of Peabody and formerly of Lynn, died Saturday evening at the Twin Oaks Nursing Home in Danvers following a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Ralph J. Smith.
Born in Peabody, she was the daughter of Stella (Stankevich) Lane of Danvers and the late Albert Lane. She was raised and educated in Peabody and was a graduate of St. John’s High School, class of 1958. She later lived in Lynn for many years.
Frances volunteered for GLYSS in Lynn for many years before her illness. She was a member of the Friendship Club, loved being with her family and enjoyed walking the beach.
She is survived by her children, Stephanie and her husband David Meader of Plaistow, NH, Ralph and his wife Debra Smith of Pembroke, Francine and her husband Mark Mansfield of Georgetown, and Jacqueline and her husband Jason Whitney of Lynn, a sister, June Lane of Pembroke and is also survived by 12 grandchildren. She was the sister of the late Albert “Mickey” Lane.
Her funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 10:00 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody Facility, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM at St. John’s Church, Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held today, Monday, from 4:00 until 8:00 PM. Burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody. In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the North Shore Arc, 64 Holten St, Danvers, MA 01923.
