Obituary of Joseph R. D'Ambrosio

Joseph R. D’ Ambrosio, 85, of So. Peabody, died Monday evening at his residence surrounded by his family after a short illness. He was the husband of Josephine (D’ Ambrosio) D’ ambrosio with whom he shared 57 years of marriage. He was born in East Boston on March 14, 1919, the son of the late Carmine and Amelia (Salano) D’ Ambrosio and was raised there and resided in Medford before moving to Peabody 13 years ago. He was a graduate of East Boston High School and later at Huntington Prep, Franklin Institute and Wentworth Institute. He enlisted in the US Army in 1941 serving 4 years during WW 11 in the Asiatic Pacific campaign and was in the battle of Guadalcanal and the Solomon Islands serving as chief of Section supervising a crew of 12 and received 2 bronze stars and the American Defense service medal. He had been a registered professional civil engineer with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in the layout section of the Department of Public Works for nearly 40 years before retiring in 1985. Mr. D’ Ambrogio was a member of the Americal Division Veterans Association and was a coin collector. Surviving him besides his wife are a son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Sheila D’ Ambrosio of Peabody, 2 daughters and a son-in-law, Diane and Dr. Robert Balsis of Whitman, MA, and Marie King of Peabody, three sisters, Nancy Sacco of Wakefield, Sue Sergi of NJ and Helen Sacco of East Boston; 7 grandchildren, Allison Bosma of Middleboro, Dr. Brian Balsis of Mattapoisett, MA, Stephen Balsis of St. Louis,Mo, Kevin D’ Ambrosio of Chicago,IL, Lisa Di Liso of Weymouth,MA, Ashley Balsis of Whitman and Jacqueline King of Peabody and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late James, Anthony, Edward and Alice D’ Ambrosio and Philly Siraco His funeral will be held on Friday at 8:00 a.m. from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Home at the 20 Church St., Peabody location Followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Ann’ s Church, Lynn St., Peabody at 9:00 AM. Burial in Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden. Visiting hours on Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM and Thursday 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 PM. Relatives and friends are kindly invited.
