Obituary of Anne M. "Babe" (Minnion) Donoghue
Anne M. “Babe” (Mannion) Donoghue, 96, of Peabody, died Tuesday evening at the Academy Manor Nursing Home in Andover following a brief illness. She was the devoted wife of the late Michael Donoghue.
Born in County Mayo, Annfield, Ireland, she was the daughter of the late Patrick and Ellen (McManus) Mannion. She was raised and educated in Ireland and in 1928 she immigrated to the United States where she settled in Lynn, and later upon marrying her husband Michael, moved to Peabody in 1937.
While living in Peabody she was a member of St. John’s Sodality and the Women’s AOH Auxiliary, both in Peabody. She also enjoyed reading, caning, and her grandchildren.
She is survived by two sons, Michael Donoghue of Boston and Joseph and his wife Donna Donoghue of Salem, four daughters, Ellen Stern and her husband Robert of New York, Maureen Dooley and her husband James of North Attleboro, Anne Brown of Beverly and Kathleen Lawn and her husband Edward of New Jersey, two brothers, Thomas Mannion of Swampscott, and Edward “Ned” Mannion of England, 11 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was the sister of the late John, Patrick, Joseph, and Nora Mannion, Delia Farrell, Eileen Kennedy, Theresa Murphy, Mary Halligan, Kathleen Calnan, and Winifred Sullivan, and mother-in-law of the late Gordon K. Brown.
Her funeral service will be held on Saturday at 10:00 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody Facility, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM at St. John’s Church, Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Friday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
