Obituary of John F. Taffe

John F. “Jackie” Taffe, 78, of Peabody, died Wednesday at the Lahey Clinic North after a short illness. He was the husband of Anne (O’Connor) Taffe with whom he shared 33 years of marriage. He was born in Peabody on September 2, 1929, the son of the late James F. and Lillian M. (Melota) Taffe and was a lifelong resident of Peabody. He was a graduate of Peabody High School in the class of 1948. Jack had been a truck driver for over 41 years prior to his retirement in 1994. He was first employed by the former Munroe, Arnold and Merritt Express Co. of Salem and also worked at many other companies before retiring as a driver form the Boyd Potato Chip Co. of Lynn. He had been a member of the Teamsters Union Local 42 of Lynn. Jack loved to work with his hands both in his garden and in his cellar work shop. He loved antique cars and enjoyed detailing them and keeping them in tip-top shape. Surviving him besides his wife are his cousins, Robert, Joseph and Carolina Melota all of Peabody, Mary Elizabeth Le Bel of Beverly, Henry Slazenik of Danvers, John Slazenik of Texas, James Slazenik of New Mexico and Ann Marie Girard of Danvers. A visitation will be held on Sunday from 4:00 until 7:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 20 Church St., (Downtown) Peabody facility. His Funeral Service will be held there on Monday at 10:00 AM. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Peabody Council on Aging, 79 Central St., Peabody, and A 01960 or to the Northeast Animal Shelter, Highland Ave., Salem, MA 01970 in his memory.
