Obituary of Vincent D. Polito

Vincent D. Polito, 83, of Peabody and formerly of Somerville, died early Friday afternoon at his home following an extended illness. He was the beloved husband of Dorothea (Hunt) Bergeron-Polito with whom he shared over 19 years of marriage. Born in Cambridge, he was the son of the late Giacomo and Florence (Polito) Polito. He was raised and educated in Somerville and was a graduate of Somerville High School. He was a veteran of World War II, who served with the United States Army. After the war, he owned and operated the Polito Brother’ s Oil Company in Somerville for over 40 years until finally retiring in 1990. He was a card player who enjoyed playing poker, wist, and bridge. He also enjoyed playing pool and dancing at the Wonderland Ball Room. He trained homing pigeons and grey hound racing dogs as well. Besides his loving wife, he is survived by his children, Janet Polito and her husband Mario Gonzalez of Enfield, Ct., Robert Polito and his wife Janice Bicchiero of Bel Air, MD, James Polito of Melrose, and Vincent Polito and his wife Lisa of Westport, CT, his brothers, John and his wife Eleanor Polito of Billerica, and James Polito of Sharon, and is also survived by seven grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Peter and Mario Polito. His funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 8:00 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 12 Chestnut St., Peabody Facility, followed by a Funeral Mass at 9:00 AM in St. Ann’ s Church, Peabody to which relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visitation on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Burial in Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
