Obituary of Sister Catherine Teresa Rice SND

Sister Catherine Teresa Rice SND, 90, of Ipswich, died on Wednesday, July 9, 2008 at the Sisters of Notre Dame, Ipswich. Sister Catherine was born February 20, 1918 in Woburn, Catherine Frances Rice, daughter of the late Frederick and Mary Catherine (Scott) Rice. Sister Catherine entered the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur Novitiate in 1938, professed her First Vows in 1940 and her Perpetual Vows in 1946 and was a graduate of Emmanuel College and Catholic University. Sister Catherine’s ministries were in Peabody, Somerville, Honolulu, Lynn, So. Boston, North End Boston, Emmanuel College and Tyngsboro. Many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews survive Sister Catherine. Her siblings Sr. Edith Rice R.C., Edna Rice and John Rice predeceased her. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 3 p.m. on Friday, July 11, 2008 in Our Lady Queen Chapel at the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur, 30 Jeffrey’s Neck Rd., Ipswich. Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Friday from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Sisters of Notre Dame. Burial in Notre Dame Cemetery, Ipswich. Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the Sisters of Notre Dame Retirement Fund, 30 Jeffrey’s Neck Rd., Ipswich, MA 01938.
