Obituary of Roger B. Fessenden

Roger B. Fessenden, 66, of Peabody, husband of Denise (Barkhouse) Fessenden with whom he shared 43 years of marriage, died after a long battle with lung cancer on Friday, July 11, 2008 at Salem Hospital with his family at his side. Roger was born in Lynn, December 18, 1941, son of the late Forrest W. and Barbara L. (Dillaway) Fessenden and was a life long resident of Peabody. He was a graduate of Peabody High School in 1959 where he excelled as a hockey player and was recently inducted in the Peabody High School Hockey Hall of Fame. Following high school, he entered the U.S. Air Force and served a tour of duty in Vietnam. He received his honorable discharge in 1963. Roger began his working career at the Stop and Shop Food Market and was later employed for 36 years at the General Electric Company Riverworks Plant in Lynn as a Firefighter until his retirement in 2002. He was a member for 43 years of the Peabody Lodge of Elks # 1409 and played on the Elks Championship Softball teams for many years. He was an avid golfer and a member of the Wenhan Country Club. In addition to his wife of Peabody, Roger is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Roger A. and Paula Fessenden of Peabody, a daughter and son-in-law, Heidi and James Wright of Groveland, 5 loving grandchildren, Dylan and Jarrett Wright of Groveland and Conner, Tanner and Hannah Fessenden of Peabody; a brother and his wife, Alan and Johanna Fessenden of Beverly and many nieces and nephews. His funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 16, 2008 in the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 82 Lynn St., (facility) Peabody. Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody. Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the N.S.
