Obituary of Alden F. "Ollie" Quirk, Jr.
Alden F. “Ollie” Quirk Jr., 81, husband of Lorraine B. (Lawrence) Quirk of Peabody, died on Wednesday, July 16, 2008 at the Grosvenor Park Rehabilitation Center in Salem with his family at his side.
Ollie was born on July 22, 1926 in Salem son of the late Alden F. and Mary (O’Brine) Quirk. He was raised in Peabody and graduated from Peabody High School Class of 1944. Following his High School graduation Ollie enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged in August of 1946. He was awarded the World War II Victory and the American Theater of Operation Medals.
Ollie began his working career with the Massachusetts Capital Police. Thereafter he became a salesman for the Ivory System. He then joined the Peabody Electric Light Company and also worked for several years at the family owned Middleton Arms Restaurant. He later became a letter carrier for the Beverly Post Office where he enjoyed delivering to his Ryal Side families for over fifteen years. He retired on a heart disability in 1978. Ollie enjoyed reading, and following local and national politics. He was a member of the Peabody V.F.W. Fidelity Post 1011 and the D.A.V. Chapter 100.
In addition to his cherished wife with whom he shared 60 years of marriage, he is survived by a son and his wife, Robert A. Quirk and Diane Denison-Quirk of Langley, WA; 3 daughters and their spouses, Donna Q. and Andrew Moskal of Nashua, NH, Dianne M. and Frank Ouellette of Middleton and Cheryl Q. and Danny Tremblay of Peabody; 7 grandchildren, Dylan and Meghan Denison-Quirk of Langley, WA, Stephanie Gill of Nashua, NH, Matthew Ouellette of Middleton, Colleen, Courtney and Corey Tremblay of Peabody; a great grandson, Ethan “Michael” Gill of Nashua and many nieces and nephews. Ollie is also survived by his loving dog Daisy Mae. His siblings Edward and William Quirk predeceased him.
His funeral will be held at 10 A.M. on Tuesday, July 22, 2008 from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 20 Church St., (downtown location) Peabody followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 A.M. in St. John the Baptist Church, in Peabody. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours Monday, from 4 to 8 P.M. Burial in Oak Grove Cemetery, Peabody. Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the D.A.V. Chapter 100, 20 Stevens St., Peabody, MA 01960, or the Arthritis Foundation, 29 Crafts Street, Suite 450, Newton, MA 02158-1287.
