Obituary of Shirley F. (Haines) Bettencourt

Shirley F. (Haines) Bettencourt, 82, of Peabody, died on Wednesday, July 23, 2008 at the Kaplan Family House in Danvers with her family at her side. Mrs. Bettencourt was born on November 20, 1925, in Peabody, daughter of the late Clarence G. and Eva M. (Larrabee) Haines. She was raised and educated in Peabody and was a lifelong resident of the city. Mrs. Bettencourt was employed for 26 years as a packer at the Deerskin Trading Post in Peabody until her retirement in 1985. Mrs. Bettencourt was an active member of North Shore Arc in Peabody and attended many Special Olympics with her daughter Cynthia and other family members. She also loved to travel and tour with her family and playing bingo. Mrs. Bettencourt is survived by her 2 loving daughters and son-in-law, Sandra L. and James P. Speliotis and Cynthia A. Bettencourt all of Peabody; her cherished grandson, Matthew J. Speliotis of Salem; 2 dear sisters, Hazele Towler of Danvers and Jean Wheeler of Peabody; a very close friend, Louise Nangle of Peabody and many nieces and nephews. Her 2 siblings Lillian Ricci and Gertrude Moskevich predeceased her. Her funeral will be held on Monday, July 28, 2008 at 1 p.m. in the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., (location) Peabody. The Reverend Grant Hoofnagle will officiate. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours are Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m. Burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody.
