Obituary of Virginia "Ginny C. (Ellis) Cassidy

Virginia C. “Ginny” (Ellis) Cassidy, 92, in Danvers, and formerly of Peabody and Belmont, New Hampshire, died peacefully Monday morning at her home following a brief illness. She was the devoted wife of the late John F. Cassidy who died this past February and with whom she shared over 66 years of marriage. Born in Peabody, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Mary (Korman) Ellis. She was raised and educated in Peabody and was a graduate of Peabody High School, class of 1934. She later lived in Belmont, New Hampshire for thirty years and has spent the last five months living in Danvers. After high school, Ginny attended J. B. Thomas Nursing School in Peabody and became a Registered Nurse in 1937. Upon her graduation from Nursing School, Ginny worked at Cable Memorial Hospital in Ipswich and later transferred to the former J.B. Thomas Hospital in Peabody where she worked until her retirement over 30 years ago. She was a longtime active member at both St. John’s Church in Peabody and later at St. Joseph’s Church in Belmont, New Hampshire. She also enjoyed singing in the choir, dancing and traveling. She is survived by her loving children, Sister Kathleen Therese, SND, of Worcester born Mary Elizabeth Cassidy, John F. Cassidy and his wife Gudbjorg P. Baldursdottir of The Villages, FL, Kathleen V. Cassidy of Danvers, and James E. and his wife Candice Cassidy of Sandown, NH, a sister-in-law, Orlo Ellis of Peabody, and by numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Martin, William, and Robert Ellis, Mary Doherty, Mabel Cahill, Helen Fennessey, and Ruth Hereford. Her funeral service will be held on Friday at 10:00 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 20 Church St., Peabody Facility, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM at St. Mary’s Annunciation Church, Danvers, to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday from 2 - 4 and 6-8 PM. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem. Expressions of sympathy can be sent in her name to either St. Joseph’s Parish, P.O. Box 285, Belmont, NH 03220 or the Sisters of Notre Dame, 30 Jeffrey’s Neck Road, Ipswich, MA 01938.
