Obituary of Ludger C. "Lou" Cote

Ludger C. Lou Cote 83 years, husband of Mabel D. (Burnett) Cote of Peabody, died Friday afternoon at the Salem Hospital after a lengthy illness. Mr. Cote was born August 23, 1921 in Salem son of the late Emil and Dianne (Dube) Cote. He was raised in Salem and graduated from Salem High School class of 1940. During WW II he served in the United States Army as a Radio Operator / Tec 4 with the 544th Engineer Amphibious Regiment and saw battle in New Guinea and Luzon. He resided in Salem & Danvers before moving to Peabody in 1956. Mr. Cote was employed as an auto mechanic at Cote’ s Garage in Salem from 1950 until his retirement in 1985. He then worked part time for the East Coast Lobster Co. in Peabody. He was a member of the K of C Leo Council 508 in Peabody and for many years wrote and edited the Mariner monthly newsletter. Also he and his wife devoted much of their time in the beano cantine and at other K of C functions. He was an avid sports fan who enjoyed football and baseball. In addition to his wife of 56 years, he is survived by 2 sons and their wives, Leonard C. and Lori Cote of Raymond NH, Philip E. and Tina Cote of Danville NH; a brother and his wife, Edward and Mary Cote of Salem; a sister and her husband, Rita and Richard Lussier of Amesbury; 3 grandchildren, Derek and Ashley Cote of Danville NH and Chantal Cote of Raymond NH and several nieces and nephews. He was pre deceased by his siblings Raymond Cote and Blanche Thibault. His funeral will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 20 Church St. location, Peabody followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. Ann’ s Church, 140 Lynn St., Peabody. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours Tuesday 4 - 8 p.m. Burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody. Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to Hospice of the North Shore, 10 Elm St., Danvers MA 01923.
