Obituary of Thomas John Garlin

Thomas J. Garlin, 89, of Peabody, died unexpectedly Tuesday morning at his home. He was the former husband of Rose (Brown) Garlin of Peabody. Born in Peabody, he was the son of the late John and Catherine Gargalianos. Thomas was a life long resident of Peabody and attended Peabody Public Schools. He was a veteran of World War II who served with the United States Marines and was honorable discharged in May of 1946. After the war, Thomas worked as a truck driver for the Harry Remis Company in Peabody for over 42 years before retiring many years ago. He was an avid fisherman and golfer and was a former member of the North Shore Country Club in Peabody and the Plum Island Surf Casters Association. He later belonged to the Larry Gannon Golf Club in Lynn. Thomas is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, John and Janice Garlin of Peabody and Richard and Katherine Garlin of Beverly, a brother, John Gargalianos of Lynn, two grandchildren Robert and Matthew Garlin and two great grandchildren, Tyler and Charlie Garlin. He was the father of the late Robert F. Garlin and brother of the late George Gargalianos, Angelo “Lucky” Garnos, and Freda Bates. His funeral service will be held on Friday at 10:00 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody followed by Funeral Services in St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, Peabody at 11:00 AM to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday from 5:00 until 8:00 PM. Burial in Harmony Grove Cemetery, Salem. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to the American Diabetes Association, 1 Bromfield St., Suite 5, Boston, MA 02108.
