Obituary of Elizabeth R. Dullea

Elizabeth R. Dullea, 88, died suddenly and unexpectedly at her home on Thursday evening. Born in Salem, she was the daughter of the late John M. and Elizabeth (Farrell) Dullea. She spent all of her life in Peabody, and attended Peabody public schools. She graduated from Peabody High School, then went on to study at Salem State College and Boston University where she earned her degree. She also took graduate courses at Boston College and Syracuse University for her Masters degree. Mrs. Dullea was a Teacher in the South School in Peabody, taught English in the Peabody Evening School, and served as a Supervisor in the Peabody Summer School. She retired from the Lynn Public School System where she taught Reading. She was well-known in the Teaching of Reading Field, having served as the President of the North Shore Reading Teacher’ s Association and a visiting Lecturer on the subject at Salem State College. She also gave many demonstration lessons before Professional Teachers’ groups. She served as President of the Ladies of Carmel, and since her retirement she has been active in the affairs of St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Peabody where she was a daily communicant. She served as a Lector, a member of the Choir, sat on the Parish Council and the Liturgical and Social Committees. She was also a volunteer at the North Shore Medical Center. She was a member of the Essex County Retired Teachers, the Retired State, County and Municipal Employees, the AARP, Lynn Retired City Employees, Salem State Alumni Association, the Living Word Prayer Group, the Lay Carmelites, Peabody Golden Agers and the Peabody Council on Aging. She loved to travel, and did so extensively both before and after her retirement. She leaves two nieces and their spouses, Claire & John Anderson and Jane & Stanley Francki, both of Salem; one nephew and his wife, John & Cynthia Manning of Salem; many grandnieces and grandnephews and great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews, as well as many friends. She was preceded in death by a sister, Grace M. Manning, and aunt of the late Mary Kilpinnen. Her Funeral will be held on Monday at 10:00 a.m. from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 20 Church St., Peabody facility followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Peabody/Salem Line at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Salem. Visiting hours on Monday from 4:00 until 8:00 P.M. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Christopher Manning Scholarship Fund, Class of 1991 Salem High School, Salem, Ma. 01970 or St. Thomas Memorial Fund, 1 Margin St., Peabody, Ma. 01960 in her memory.
