Obituary of Helen (Shachook) Spaneas

Helen (Shachook) Spaneas 71 years, wife of Peter G. Spaneas of Peabody died Monday morning at her home after a brief illness. Mrs. Spaneas was born December 21, 1933 in Peabody daughter of the late Yakim and Justina (Klebash) Shachook. She was raised in Peabody, graduated from Peabody High School class of 1951 and was lifelong resident of the city. Mrs. Spaneas was the bookkeeper for many years at Ted’ s Service Station on Foster St. in Peabody. She devoted her whole life to being a wife, mother and grandmother. She and her husband enjoyed worldwide traveling. In addition to her husband of 53 years, she is survived by a son and his wife, George P. and Debra Spaneas of Peabody; 4 daughters and their husbands, Kathryn J. and Steve Horemiotis, Kim and Albert Tanguay all of Peabody, Patricia and Stephen Distefano of Gales Ferry CT and Paula K. and Daniel Cook of Sidney ME; a brother and his wife, Yakim and Lois Shachook of AZ; a sister and her husband, Mary and Michael Tenedios of ME; 11 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her siblings Peter Bik and Amelia Bik and her Maltese dog Holly. Her funeral will be held Thursday at 9 a.m. from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 20 Church St. location, Peabody followed by a service at 10 a.m. in St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, 5 Paleologos St., Peabody. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours Wednesday 4 - 8 p.m. Burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody. Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to St. Vasilios Altar Fund, 5 Paleologos St., Peabody MA 01960.
