Obituary of David A. Murphy
David A. “Doc” Murphy, 73, of So. Peabody, died Saturday at the NSMC- Salem Hospital after a long illness. He was the husband of Marie Ann (Fournier) Murphy with whom he would have celebrated their 50th Wedding anniversary on September 13, 2008.
He was born in Peabody on March 31, 1935, the son of the late Raymond F. and Murial H. (Legro) Murphy and was a lifelong resident of the city. He graduated from Peabody High School in 1952 and attended Franklin Institute in Boston.
He then entered the US Army where he was a tank commander before his discharge at a First Sergeant in 1957.
David was a detailed draftsman and a civil engineer with Fay, Spoffard and Thorndike Inc. of Burlington for 45 years retiring on April 4, 1997. He had been a member of the Engineers Softball League for many years and helped coaching the Peabody farm league baseball teams.
He also enjoyed bowling and played for the Shoemaker Post Bowling Team in Lynn for many years. He had a loved of history and especially with the elections of terms of the United States Presidents.
Surviving him besides his wife are a son, Michael Murphy of Peabody, three daughters and two sons-in-law, Erin Ann Murphy of Peabody, Janine and Robert Gulla of Gloucester and Andrea and Jeffrey Daley of Beverly, a sister, Kathleen F. Quade of Sanford, Me, a brother and sister-in-law, Paul R. and Margaret Murphy of Danvers, his 4 grandchildren, Nicole Tsoulas of Malden, Cassandra Tsoulas of Lynn, and Jeffrey Jr. and Joshua Daley of Beverly and many nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Alane Marie Murphy.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 82 Lynn St. Peabody facility. His Funeral will be held on Wednesday at 9:00 AM from the Funeral Home followed by a Funeral Mass in St . Ann’s Church, Lynn St., Peabody at 10:00 AM. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Lynn. Expressions of sympathy may be made to Hospice of the North Shore, 75 Sylvan St., Suite B-102, Danvers, MA 01923 in his memory.
