Obituary of Portia Douramakos
Portia Douramakos, 85, of Peabody, died Saturday afternoon at the NSMC - Union Hospital in Lynn following a short illness. She was born in Peabody, Ma on November 21, 1922, the daughter of the late William and Stella (Skoulikas) Douramakos and resided here all her life.
She had been employed for over 30 years at the former GTE- Sylvania Lighting Company starting at the Loring Ave building and later at the Boston St. Salem plant. She was a proud member of the Sylvania Quarter Century Club.
She had been a long -time faithful client and special friend of Sue Rambis, owner of Lifestyles Salon with whom she eagerly and happily visited every Friday morning for many years.
She had been an avid beano player and had a discerning eye for fine dining, fine jewelry and designer clothes and enjoyed shopping on Newbury ST., Boston where she was a well known customer for decades.
She is survived by her devoted nieces and nephews, Ann Patten, James Scarimontios and William Douramakos all of Peabody and many grand nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Arthur Douramakos and Jennie Scarimontios.
A Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4:00 until 7:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 82 Lynn ST., Peabody facility. Her Funeral will be held on Wednesday at 9:00 AM from the Funeral Home followed by Services in St. Vasilios Church, Peabody at 10:00 AM. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody. Relatives and friends are kindly invited.
