Obituary of Rupert Alvin Carter, Jr.
Rupert Alvin Carter, 77, of Peabody, died Thursday evening at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers following a brief illness. He was the devoted husband of the late Marie (Pinto) Carter who died the past May 18, and with whom he shared over 57 years of marriage.
Born in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, he was the son of the late Rupert Alvin Carter Sr., and Thelma (MacGregor) Carter. He was a lifelong resident of Peabody and a graduate of Peabody High School, class of 1949.
After high school, Rupert first worked as a foreman for the Bordon Chemical Company in Peabody from 1950 until 1976. He continued working for the General Electric Plant in the Chemistry Lab as an inspector, before finally retiring in 1987.
For over 60 years, Rupert enjoyed racing homing pigeons and at one point was an Honored Guest of the Chinese Government for a particular race. He also was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching great Western movies. He was a member of the B.P.O.E Elks Club # 1409 in Peabody and enjoyed the breakfast club as well, but most of all, Rupert enjoyed a good political debate.

Rupert is survived by his loving children, William Carter, PhD., of North Reading, Paul and his wife Carolyn Carter of Winter Haven, Florida, Anthony “Tony” Carter, MD., and his wife Allison of Newport News, VA, and Diana Robertson* of Peabody, his brothers and sister, James Carter of NY, Brian Carter of Peabody and Joan Myers of Peabody, his six grandchildren, Corey Carter, Jill Panek, Stephen Michaels, Adam Robertson, Zachary Carter and Kaitlyn Carter, and also by his three great grandchildren, Reece Panek, Haley and Jack Carter. He was the brother of the late William and David Carter.
His funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 11:30 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn Street, Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM. Burial in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to the Hospice of the North Shore, 75 Sylvan St., Danvers, MA 01923.
