Obituary of Agil "Ole" Vernon Olsen

Agil “Ole” Vernon Olsen, 89, of East Lyme Ct and formerly of Peabody MA, died Friday evening, September 5, 2008 at the Greentree Manor Nursing Home in Waterford, Ct., after a long illness. He was the husband of the late Rita Mary (O’Connor) Olsen. He was born in Seattle, Washington on March 4, 1919, the son of the late Haakon Ragnar and Mimmi (Fjelaas) Olsen and was raised and educated there graduating from Roosevelt High School in 1936 and later receiving a BS Commercial Engineering Degree at the University of Washington in 1942. He then entered the US Army at Ft. Lewis, Washington and served in WW 11 prior to his discharge as Captain in 1953. He became an engineer with the H. N. Hartwell Company in Boston and later at the Sprague Energy Firm on Route 128 for several years prior to his retirement. He was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan, enjoyed golf, Skiing and was a member of the Salem Country Club. He especially cherished his days with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is survived by a son and his dear friend, Martin J. Olsen and Janet Bettencourt of Danvers, two daughters and a son-in-law, Randi and Ellery Kington and Sally A. Olsen all of East Lyme, Ct., his grandchildren, Brian Kington of Arlington, VA and Marit and her husband Viktor Bovbjerg and their children Kirsten, Hannah and Tiernan Bovbjerg all of Chapel Hill, N.C. and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late June Meerdink. A Visitation will be held on Thursday from 9:30 until 11:00 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 82 Lynn ST., Peabody facility followed by Services there at 11:00 AM. Burial will be in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody. Expressions of sympathy may be made to Mass.
