Obituary of Mary Mae Bailey

Mary Mae (Vautour) (Callahan) Bailey, 90, of Peabody, died early Friday morning at the Kindred Hospital in Peabody following a brief illness. She was the devoted wife of the late John Joseph Callahan and Louis Bailey. Born in New Brunswick, Canada, she was the daughter of the late Simon and Augustina (Hebert) Vautour. Age the age of 4, she moved to Peabody where she lived for over 82 years. She has spent the last 2 years living in Lynn. She worked as a nurse’s aide, first with Twin Oaks Nursing Home in Danvers and later after her initial retirement, she worked at Lynn Union Hospital in Lynn. She also was a Brownie Leader and for 20 years was a member of the Garden Club, and Minute Man Craft. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Ellen Flynn of Peabody, her sister, Eva Vautour of Encinitas, CA, and by 8 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. She was the mother of the late Jane Elizabeth Kelley, sister of the late Nora Cordeau, John Vautour and Ann Harvey. Her Funeral Service will be held on Thursday at 10:00 AM in St. Ann’s Church, Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to St. Jude’s Children Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1905.
