Obituary of Edward J. "Red" Lane

Edward J. “Red” Lane, Jr. PEABODY—Edward J. “Red” Lane, Jr., 76, beloved husband of Lucille (Eiler) Lane, died peacefully at the North Shore Medical Center—Salem Hospital in Salem after a long illness. Born in Danvers on November 4, 1931, he was the son of the late Edward J. and Catherine (Cashel) Lane . He attended Salem schools and graduated from Salem High school, class of 1949. He excelled in sports, especially football and was inducted into the Salem High School Hall of Fame in 2002. He resided in Peabody for the last 48 years. Mr. Lane served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He was a Leather Chemist and retired from Stahl Finish in Peabody. “Red” was an avid sports enthusiast and supported his children’s and grandchildren's teams. He will be remembered for his kindness , sense of humor and dedication to his family, career, and country. He is survived by: his wife, Lucille (Eiler) Lane of Peabody, with whom he shared 53 years of marriage; two sons and daughters-in-law, Edward J. & Karan Lane, III, of West Newbury; John & Janice Lane of Amesbury; three daughters and a son-in-law, Cathy & Larry Archis of Bel Air, MD, and Mary Lane and Judy Lane, both of Peabody; eight grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter Mari an who died as an infant, and two sisters Margaret Roberts and Joan Kapnis. A visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4 to 8 P.M. in the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St. location, Peabody. Relatives and friends are invited to gather at the funeral home at 9 AM on Wednesday, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 AM in St. Adelaide’s Church, Peabody. Committal will follow at Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody. Memorial donations may be made to the Cardiac Care Unit, c/o NSMC Salem Hospital, Devpt. Office, 81 Highland Ave, Salem, MA 01970.
