Obituary of Barbara E. Dion

Barbara E. Dion, 69, of Boston, died unexpectedly at her home on Wednesday, October 1, 2008. Barbara was born in Peabody on April 19, 1939, daughter of Ann H. (Kalinowsky) Dion and the late Ernest W. Dion. She was raised in Peabody and graduated from St. John the Baptist Girls High School class of 1957 and in 1961 she received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in English from Salem State College. Barbara moved to Boston in 1963 and especially enjoyed residing in her Beacon Hill neighborhood. Barbara was employed for 35 years at the Boston Globe in their community relations department, a position that she held until her retirement in 2002. She was a member of the Museum of Fine Arts, enjoyed traveling and had a special love for Boston. In addition to her mother of Peabody, she is survived by her brother, David R. Dion of San Francisco CA; 1 uncle, Richard Dion of St. Petersburg FL; 2 aunts, Josephine Kalinowsky of Peabody and Marie Kalinowsky of Salem and her many dear friends. Her family will received relatives and friends on Thursday, October 9, 2008 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 20 Church St., (downtown location) Peabody. A prayer service will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday in the funeral home. A family committal of ashes will be held at Cedar Grove Cemetery. The family has requested that memorial contributions be made in Barbara’s memory to St. John the Baptist Elementary School, 17R Chestnut St., Peabody 01960.
