Obituary of Ruth Couris

Ruth (Kokoreas) Couris, 81, of Peabody died Saturday At the Lahey Clinic Hospital in Burlington, Ma. after a long illness. She was the wife Of ret. Peabody Police Officer George Couris. She was born in Peabody, Ma. the daughter of the late Nicholas and Sophia (Bogas) Kokoreas and was a graduate of Peabody High School and a lifelong resident of Peabody. She was first employed at GTE Sylvania Co. at the Salem facility for 8 years prior To her marriage and later was a Sales Clerk at the former J.J. Newberry’ s Store at the Northshore Mall for 10 years prior to her retirement. She had been a member of the Daughters of Laconia and enjoyed playing Bingo on Sunday evenings at the Kinghts Of Columbus Hall in Peabody. Surviving her besides her husband are a son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Michelle Couris of Peabody , a daughter, Marilyn Couris of Manhatten, N.Y., 3 sisters and brothers-in-law, Stella and Alfred Peach of Peabody, Mary and Menzo Nakis of Newburyport, and Helen and Lou Arvanites of Danvers, Ma.; 3 grandchildren, Cheryl Ann, Nicholas and Bobbi Couris all of Peabody, a sister-in-law, Kaye Kokoreas Of Peabody and many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Louis Kokoreas. Her Funeral will be held on Wednesday at 9:00 a.m from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 12 Chestnut St., Peabody facility followed by Services in St. Vasilios Church, Peabody at 10:00 a.m. Burial in Puritan Lawn Mem.
