Obituary of Edward J. Downey

Edward J. Downey, 75, husband of June C. (Robicheau) Downey of Peabody, died unexpectedly in Las Vegas on October 3, 2008. Born in Peabody, he was the son of the late Arthur and Edna (Murphy) Downey. He was a lifelong resident of Peabody. He was a veteran of the Korean War, with service in the United States Army. Mr. Downey operated his own trucking firm, Pacific Molasses for many years. He later worked as a Truck Driver with the Distribution Center of the U.S. Post Office in Peabody until his retirement. Ed was a member of the Peabody Elks Lodge B.P.O.E. 1408 and was also active in the Beverly Elks, the Peabody V.F.W. Post 1011, the Peabody A.O.H. Division 11, the Italian-American Club of Beverly, and the Polish Club in Danvers. He loved riding motorcycles, especially his Harley. He is survived by: his wife, June (Robicheau) Downey of Peabody; three sons, James E. Downey and Kevin Downey, both of Peabody, and Daniel Downey of Lynn; one daughter, Lynn M. O’Brien of Peabody; four grandchildren, Paige and Cole Downey, and Matthew and Brandon O’Brien; one sister, Cathy Sheridan of Peabody, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Michael Downey. Relatives and friends are invited to gather on Saturday from 10 to 11 AM in the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St. facility, Peabody, followed by a Funeral Ceremony. Urn burial will be in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody with Military Honors.
