Obituary of Mary A. (Waters) O'Neill

Mary A. (Waters) O’Neill, 81, of Ipswich and formerly Concord, wife of the late Francis L. O’Neill, died on Monday, October 13, 2008 at the Masconomet Health Care in Topsfield. Mrs. O’Neill was born in Salem on August 20, 1927, daughter of the late James T. and Mary E. (Coughlin) Waters. She was raised in Peabody and graduated from Peabody High School Class of 1944. In 1948 she received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education from Salem State Teachers College and her MBA in 1949. She resided in Peabody before making her home in Concord in 1963. In 2005 she moved to Ipswich to live with her daughter. Mrs. O’Neill began her teaching career at Dean Academy in Franklin, and then she thought at Whitinsville High School for 2 years. From 1953 to 1963 she taught grade school and special education at the Brown School in Peabody and in the Lowell Public School system from 1971 until her retirement in 1991. She was a member of the Senior Center in Concord, the Massachusetts Retired Teachers Association and enjoyed traveling. She is survived by her children, Mary Jane O’Neill M.D. of Ipswich, James E. O’Neill and his wife Kristen of Carlisle PA and Francis L. O’Neill of CA; 2 brothers, Edward L. Waters of Peabody and James E. Waters of Satellite FL; 2 granddaughters, Natalie and Kathleen of PA and many nieces and nephews. Her funeral will be held on Friday, October 17, 2008 at 10 a.m. from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., (facility) Peabody followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. John the Baptist Church, 16 Church St., Peabody. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours are Thursday from 3 to 7 p.m. Burial in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, Concord MA.
