Obituary of Stella (Niconchuk) Elchook</b)

Stella (Niconchuk) Elchook, 93 years, wife of the late John A. Elchook, died on Wednesday, October 15, 2008 at the Salem Hospital surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Elchook was born in Peabody on June 19, 1915, daughter of the late William and Anna (Worobey) Niconchuk. She was raised in Peabody and graduated from Peabody High School Class of 1932 and remained a lifelong resident of the city. Mrs. Elchook was employed as a machine operator and assembler at the North Shore Laboratories in Peabody from 1964 until her retirement in 1997. She dedicated her entire life to her family, then her grandchildren and most recently to her great granddaughter. Mrs. Elchook was well read, and loved following political debates on television and as a result was always willing to get involved into a discussion with anyone especially if they were not for the Democratic Party. She enjoyed watching cooking shows and was an avid dancer. She is survived by her children, Paula A. Griffin and her husband Leo of Salem and Joyce M. Johnson of Peabody; a brother, Paul W. Niconchuk of Peabody; her grandchildren, Erik P. Johnson and Laura A. Johnson both of Peabody, Amy J. and Ben Stewart and Alicia M. Griffin all of Salem; a great granddaughter, Emma H. Stewart of Salem, many nieces and nephews and her former son-in-law, Ernest Johnson of Methuen. Her siblings Alec W. Niconchuk and Catherine Vaughn, her sisters-in-law, Helen (Devine) Niconchuk and Joan M. (Rice) Niconchuk and her niece Barbara whom she raised predeceased her. Her funeral will be held on Monday, October 20, 2008 at 9 a.m. from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St. (location) Peabody followed by the Burial Service at 10 a.m. in St. Nicholas Russian Orthodox Church, 64 Forrester St., Salem. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours are on Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m. A Memorial Service (Panikhida) will be held on Sunday at 7:15 p.m. Burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody.
