Obituary of Adelaide Silva Figueira
Adelaide Silva Figueira, 76, of Peabody, died on Wednesday, October 15, 2008 at the Shaughnessy-Kaplan Rehabilitation Hospital in Salem. Her loving family who surrounded her at the hospital said that she waited for her birthday to leave them. “Adelaide, May God guide you to a better place, till someday we meet again.”
Adelaide was born in the Madeira Islands, Portugal on October 15, 1932 daughter of the late Manuel S. and Maria da (Conceicao) Figueira. She was raised and educated in Portugal and immigrated to the United States in 1966 and made her home in Peabody.
For 25 years she was employed as a seamstress at New England Sports Wear in Peabody until it’s closing and for the last 15 years was employed in the same capacity at various local bridal shops. She was a parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima Church and the Holy Ghost Society. Her family described Adelaide as having golden hands when it came to sewing, knitting, crocheting etc. She was also very proud of growing her “Heart shaped tomatoes” and giving them out. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
Adelaide is survived by her only sister, Alice L. Figueira of S. Hamilton; her nieces and nephews, Linda Pereira of Peabody, John Figueira of Beverly, Arlinda and Victor Silva of Lisbon, Natalia Figueira of Sao Miguel, Rui Andrade and Anna Paula of Canada and her many dear friends. Her 14 sisters and brothers predeceased her.
Her funeral will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2008 at 10 a.m. from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., (location) Peabody followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in Our Lady of Fatima, 50 Walsh Ave., Peabody. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. Burial in St. Mary’s cemetery, Salem.
