Mary A. (Dunn) Lewis, R.N.
PEABODY Mary A. (Dunn) Lewis, R.N., 82, died Monday morning at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital following a long illness.
Born in Peabody, she was a lifelong resident of the city. She was the daughter of the late John and Julia (Sullivan) Dunn, and attended Peabody schools. She graduated from St. John’ s High School, Class of 1939,and then attended Nursing School at J.B. Thomas Hospital, Boston City Hospital, and Tewksbury State Hospital, Class of 1942.
Mrs. Lewis was the Director of Nursing Services at North Shore Children’ s Hospital in Salem where she worked for 25 years until her retirement in 1972. She was then a Nurse at the Rainbow Nursing Home in Peabody for five years.
She is survived by: two sons and a daughter-in-law, John Lewis of Lynn and Arthur & Barbara Lewis of Salem; two daughters and sons-in-law, Catherine & Bruce Symmes of Danvers and Mary & James Souter of South Hamilton; nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; a sister and brother-in-law, Catherine & Frank Clifford of Peabody, and several nieces and nephews. She was also the wife of Arthur Lewis of Peabody. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Rev. John J. Dunn, SSJ and Daniel Dunn.
Her funeral will be held on Thursday at 8 AM from the Cahill-Brodeur facility at 20 Church St. of the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, Peabody, followed by a Funeral Mass at 9 AM in ST. John's Church, Peabody. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. A visitation will be held on Wednesday from 2-4 & 7-9 P.M. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody
