Obituary of Marie M. (Foley) McCarthy

Marie M. (Foley) McCarthy, 83, of Peabody, wife of the late Thomas W. McCarthy, died on Friday, October 24, 2008 at the Rosewood Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Peabody after a brief illness. Mrs. McCarthy was born on August 10, 1925, in Boston, daughter of the late Richard C. and Marie (Madden) Foley. She was raised in Boston and graduated from Roslindale High School Class of 1943. She moved to Peabody in 1956. Mrs. McCarthy began her working career in 1943 as a secretary at Shawmut Bank, a position she left in 1947 to raise her family. Following the untimely death of her husband in 1974, Mrs. McCarthy cared for her children. She later returned to the work force as an administrative assistant at S.S. Pierce for 10 years until it’s closing. As a good wife and mother, Mrs. McCarthy dedicated her entire life to her family, extended family members and friends and kept her doors opened to anyone in need. She was an avid reader and kept herself well educated in the political forum. Mrs. McCarthy is survived by her children and their spouses, Thomas P. and Catherine McCarthy of Manchester MD, James M. and Karen McCarthy of Baltimore MD, Paul R. McCarthy, William B. McCarthy and Laureen Parent all of Peabody and Jean M. and Patrick Fletcher of Whitman; a sister and her husband, Edith and George Whelpley of Orange County CA; 3 grandchildren, Christine, Mary and Meghan McCarthy of MD and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son Kevin J. McCarthy in 1988 and her brother Richard C. Foley. Her funeral will be held on Monday, October 27, 2008 at 8 a.m. from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., (location) Peabody followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. in St. Ann’s Church, 140 Lynn St., Peabody. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m. Burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Lynn.
